Here are a few things to note while preparing for the recording:

  • Web Browser: Please be aware, this service will only work on a Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browser. This will NOT work on a phone or tablet.

  • If possible, try to limit as much other streaming, cloud backups, downloading, or other bandwidth draining activities on your network to allow for a smooth connection.

  • If you’re able to, plug directly into ethernet.

  • Make sure Chrome/Edge is updated. You’ll see a button in the upper right corner if you need to update.

  • Close other browser tabs and applications running on your computer.

  • VPN: Temporarily turn off any VPNs, browser extensions, content blockers, or firewalls that may interfere with the recording process.

  • Audio: Please try to find a quiet environment to hold your interview. USB microphones are helpful if you have one.

  • For best results, use wired headphones (avoid wireless/bluetooth headphones). This will help to avoid any delay/echo in our recordings.

  • Lighting: We’re aiming for soft, even lighting. Using a video light is helpful if you have one. If not, try finding some window light to illuminate you from the front/side. Avoid bright lighting from behind you. We will guide you through some of this set up before the interview as well.

  • Environment: Please try to find a spot that is clean and simple to avoid a distracting background behind you.

  • Position of your computer: Ensure your computer or camera is at eye level to allow for the best viewing experience for the audience. Your camera should be looking straight at you, not up or down at you.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Riverside will be uploading the recording from a temporary file saved on your computer. It is incredibly important to allow that recording to fully upload at the end of our session so please allow for an extra 5-10 minutes past our interview period before closing the Riverside browser.
